A word from the Minister
Binyamin (Fuad) Ben Eliezer

Dear Visitors,

Welcome to the Website of the Ministry of National Infrastructures.

The Ministry of Infrastructures covers many fields which are all directly pertinent to the daily lives of each one of us, and are of prime importance to the existence and development of our country: energy, electricity, water, sewage, fuel, and earth sciences. The products from these fields of endeavor are the result of the daily hard toil of ministry employees.

Life in the twenty-first century poses before us great and important challenges with which we cope on a daily basis. We have to provide solutions to the growing demand for electricity while decreasing the polluting emissions in order to safeguard Planet Earth; limit and minimize damage to the quality of the air we breathe; protect water sources and their channels of distribution, protect our natural resources, and more.

The Ministry of Infrastructure which I lead has placed at the top of its priorities the goals of promoting clean energy and renewable energy on the one hand, and striving for more efficient energy consumption on the other. We continue to lead the industrial switch to using natural gas, and we are  introducing and implementing the concept of renewable energy wherever possible, in a way that will reflect our extensive knowledge of developing green energy and the high potential Israel has, thanks to its climatic conditions.

The State of Israel is at the forefront of water technology worldwide, yet at the same time we have been coping with a severe water crisis brought about by drought in the past few years.  We must all take part in the effort to save water. I and my ministry will continue to act for the establishing of additional desalination installations and higher quality treated waste water. Together we can ensure our water supply for the coming years.

This year, in 2008, we expect many changes in the area of national infrastructures. Among the outstanding ones are: the tender for the first solar power station in the Negev; increased use of renewable energies; a wide-scale plan for energy efficiency measures; handling the acute water crisis in the economy; increased enforcement in the realm of electricity; and the plan for reinforcing buildings and protecting them against earthquake damage.

This website enables you to find out what's new and keep abreast of latest developments in all these areas. You will also find here information about R&D projects, Ministry tenders, and suggestions for simple steps we can all take at home to become more efficient and save on electricity.

I hope you will make the most of the information provided and enjoy your visit to our website.

Cordially yours,

Binyamin (Fouad) Ben Eliezer

Minister of National Infrastructures
